"Deep Purple" are an English rock group founded in Hertford, Hertfordshire in 1968. Along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, they are widely considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock music. here are, however, some group members that have tried not to pigeonhole themselves as any one specific genre.
The group also incorporated elements of classical music, blues-rock, pop and progressive rock in their work. Even so, they once held the Guinness Book of World Records title of world's loudest band, and have sold over 100 million albums the world over.
"Deep Purple" is a group that has gone through many personnel changes over the years, and was absent from the music scene for an eight-year hiatus (1976-1984). Their second and most successful line-up featured Ian Gillan on vocals, Ritchie Blackmore playing guitar, Jon Lord as keyboardist, Roger Glover on bass and Ian Paice behind the drums.
This line-up was active between the years 1969 and 1973 and was brought back from 1984 to 1989 and yet again in 1993 before disagreements between Blackmore and other group members became too much for them. The current line-up which includes guitarist Steve Morse has remained quite solid, despite Lord's retirement in 2002 that left Paice as the only original member.
