"Lynyrd Skynyrd" is one of the best known Southern rock groups in the history of the genre. They became popular in the Southern United States during 1973, and rose to worldwide fame before several members, including lead singer and songwriter Ronnie Van Zant, died in an airplane crash in 1977.
The band eventually reformed in 1987 for a reunion tour with Ronnie's younger brother, Johnny Van Zant serving as frontman. The group continues to record music and have signed a worldwide deal with Loud & Proud/Roadrunner Records.
